From the Author

I've always been fascinated with the way words and music can take us to places we've never been and meet amazing people we will never actually know. The first book I fell in love with as a kid was, Follow My Leader, about a kid blinded by a firecracker. Then, I consumed all of the Hardy Boy books. I knew as a teenager that I wanted to create novels that would emotionally impact people and help take them to better places in their lives. I love the craft of writing: the careful attention to words, getting to know the characters in my novels so they take on a life independent of me. I love when people share their reactions of passages in my novels that have moved them. And I write these novels as return gifts to all of the creative genius's whose amazing novels, songs, and performances I've had the privilege to read and witness.

Things You Don't Know About Me

1. At one time I had 19 cats, 7 goats and 26 hamsters all of them well loved, all of them eating me out of house and home, literally.

2. In a private high school, called the Athenian School,  I taught English and filmmaking.

3. For 6 years, I helped lead a grassroots group of researchers and parents to find a cure for MS. My eldest daughter passed from the complications of the disease at 10 years old. My dream is that all of the research and time we spent will help save the lives of the wonderful children and adults who deal with MS every day.

4. With my eldest daughter, I architected a major redesign of our garden in Oregon. I think of it as a lasting tribute to her creativity.

5. I acted in the West Coast premiere of David Mamet's, Glengary Glen Ross in LA, which won numerous prizes.

6. I still haven't given up the dream of playing in the NFL even though someone told me they don't draft people over the age of 40. I still work out at the gym one day a week waiting for that call.

7. Stella Adler, acting coach for such luminaries as Marlon Brando, loved me so much in a scene I acted for her that she invited me to LA to work with her. Unfortunately, soon afterwards she became ill. My wife says the prospect of working with me would make anyone ill. :-)

8. In high school, my friend and I would drive to Princeton to the Advanced Research Center to listen to afternoon, astrophysics lectures. One time, a graduate student who'd seen us several times, walked over and asked, "What the hell are you guys doing here?" I told him we were from Alpha Centauri and used my middle finger to point at our star.

9. I have four amazing daughters who are following their dreams of becoming scientists in biology, chemistry and medicine.

10. I feel blessed and lucky to be in love at this stage of my life. (My wife helped me write this.)

11. On that proverbial bench that looks out over the ocean, if I could sit next to anyone and ask them one question, I would choose my mom who died when I was 5, and my question to her would be..... I haven't figured that one out yet.
